The Star Wars project
So I’m trying to transfer some other laser discs to dvd to get practice for when I try with Star Wars. In anticipation of this I got a newer better video capture card, I got Adobe Premiere Pro, I upgraded to Windows XP so I could run Premiere Pro. There’s a lot behind this.
Premiere is complicated enough that it comes with a little tutorial video. So I watched that and learned how I need to cut up the pieces of of video clips and put them together. I try it with Hero (not the kung-fu movie but the one with Duston Hoffman and Geena Davis) and get it all edited the way I want. Why edit a recording of a laser disc? Well there’s the part before the movie starts to cut off, the side transition to cut out of the middle, and the end after the credits to eliminate.
Anyway, it’s all together and I tell it to export it to MPEG2-DVD format. It starts and after a short while tells me there isn’t enough memory. Not enough memory? I know I only have a gigabyte but it should be swapping out to disk as necessary and I have about 180GB free. WTF?!
I think I might need a different program. Any suggestions?
Gah! Is there a temp file that you need to specify for it? I seem to recall people setting up multiple hard drives to run the high end Adobe products.
What new Capture card did you get? I’ve been looking at the Hauppaugge 150.
April 11th, 2005 at 8:17 amI looked briefly for some config but then I decided I had better things to do with my time right then. I’ll try again later.
I got a VStream capture card since it has a higher bit-depth than the older Conexant 878/888 chipsets. I won’t really know how good it is until I get it on to a dvd and watch it on a regular screen.
April 11th, 2005 at 8:30 amHmm, okay. I was getting all excited to buy a new Hauppauge card, (the PVR-150MCE) and I was reading reviews. Well, next thing I know, I’m reading a review of the lame Avermedia card! Damn, I’m going to have to go and revist that card now.
April 12th, 2005 at 12:02 pmKeep in mind. All I had done before buying was read up on chipsets. The one I got seemed like the good new thing but I knew nothing about VStream. I read reviews when I got it home and they were bad because they couldn’t install it. I guess people have problems with instructions poorly translated into English. It installed for me with no problems.
