Appliances got installed on Friday. Not all of them, we’re still waiting on the refrigerator, and dishwasher needs a test run before use, and the remote blower for the down-draft unit needs to be installed.
That said, the cooktop works very well and I was able bring 1/2 gallon of water to a high boil in 4.5 minutes. A watched pot does boil.
The oven (which has a Sabbath mode) did a wonderful job cooking a chicken. It’s also amazingly insulated. We turned off the oven and went for a quick trip to Joel & Cathi’s which ended up being 1.5 hours. When we got home the chicken was still almost too hot to handle.
Nicole loves her coffee machine and is tuning it to make the perfect cup of espresso.
During our week of not living at home because the floors were being done, my copy of “The Frisco Kid” arrived. I have seen this movie probably about a dozen times now and I still love it. I wanted to show this for my birthday movie fest long ago but it wasn’t available, so yay for it finally being available on dvd.
Two weeks ago we moved out for a week so the floors could be done. If it was just the kitchen floor then we would have stayed, but we had them coat all the rest of the floors too since the guy who did those didn’t do the best job on them.
We’re trying to switch to a non-outdoor shoe house, so to support that I was walking around in socks. The bad part is that socks on a freshly finished floor can be pretty slippery so I fell down the stairs that lead to the laundry area. I have a nice purple blotch on my lower back but the lump is about all gone. The bruise on my toe was a line shape, then a tadpole. Now it’s a seven.
The contractor hurt his knee playing soccer last weekend so he hasn’t been able to do anything this week. He had an MRI yesterday to find out what exactly is hurt. Today he is there with the electrician hooking up all the appliances except the refrigerator since that needs a lot more effort. This all means that I can actually make the Death by Chocolate I signed myself up for.
The bathroom cabinets are finished and in place. We still need to pick out handles for them but the look good and today the countertop people are there templating the countertops. After the counters are in the sink can go in and we can get the glass to block off the shower.
This weekend we need to paint all the baseboards and door trim so they will get installed on Monday.

MORTAL CHOCOLATE!
I’ve been busy but I have a reprieve. We’re moved out of the hosue this week while the floors are being done and last week and this week were to be the final weeks of our project at work. Long hours were the norm and the only downtime was the usual 5-6 hours of sleep. On the bright side, Saturday we can move back into the house and yesterday we were told we had an extra month before we ship. That gives us time to get the last features in AND make them stable. Stability was going to be lost otherwise, so it’s good all around since I don’t need to put in the long hours to get it out the door.
This weekend I hope to paint the door trims and the laundry room.
I saw this like two weeks ago now. It’s a fun bad movie, sometimes funny. Every fight scene is almost the same, a group of guys surrounds her and she kills them all. Really, all of them are like that. The environment effects are bad and the whole thing looks like it could be rendered in real time on an ultra-high-end PC. The buildings look like bales of cardboard waiting to be recycled. You will be entertained.
Also there is grouted kitchen backsplash.
First there is a kitchen faucet which is springy and has a front button to switch to spray mode for as long as you hold it. To the right of it is the soap dispenser, and to the right of that is the garbage disposal switch.
The bathroom fixtures in place so far are the bathrub controls and faucet, the shower controls and one shower head, and the toilet and dual-flush mechanism. The toilet seat will come later.
A recent report showed that girls are finally outperforming boys in school. A lot of speculation about why has been thrown about, but the reason has finally become clear. Another study just released showed that for the first time girls have surpassed boys in the uptake of cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs.
