State of the house

I know they all seem like state of the house, but it seems like there are a lot of little things to mention.

  • We got an on-demand water heater (Takagi K-2). The old water heater was in an outside closet that took up part of the office. The floor sloped slightly in so if the water heater leaked it would run into the office and get the carpet wet. If it wasn’t leaking it would just happen when it rained at an angle to get it through the ventillation holes in the door and be small enough to not notice. Also the water heater was only walled off with dry-wall. No structure to the wall beyond that. That closet has been removed, the external wall built up, and the on-demand heater put there. The downside is it seems it isn’t getting enough gas because the water just isn’t that hot.
  • The walls in the living room and master bedroom are going to be re-textured old-world style. However the person doing that had their mother-in-law die of cancer last weekend so he’s home taking care of the kids while his wife is away.
  • The bathtub should arrive today. Of course it should have arrived months ago and it’s coming from Germany. They say this week for real though.
  • Windows are ordered so in about 6 weeks we can finally get rid of the single-pane aluminum frame windows and replace the double-paned windows where the seal has failed.
  • Thereversing of the electrical panel in the tv room will happen tomorrow so finally I can have an unobstructed wall for the projector to project on to
  • Tile in the bathroom is going to start next week
  • We’re late in getting the cabinets under way in the bathroom so that will be another 6 weeks out.
  • I’ll be so glad when the kitchen cabinets go in so we can get a little more breathing room.
